I was at Flippe's Point and the surf had picked up considerabley and wind swells as well. I had already speared a nice Cabrilla and a few others and as I was kicking away from the rocky point during a set of swells coming in. Under me, I saw this huge parrot fish next to a rock at the bottom. In the midst of large surges, I dropped on top of it and it with a direct shot, and thank goodness with no rocks to swim and hide in, fought and pulled it in on my float line and with a Riffe float breakaway system! I struggled a bit as I was fighting to stay off the rocks as well as the swells were 8-10 feet, there was a bit of current and a lot of wind waves/chop with 15 knot winds. It was so large, I swam it back the 1/2 mile swim along the shoreline to a safe entry point on my shaft ( through a gill and out the mouth). The only way I could brain it was up through the eyes. I have been trying to get this same fish at the point for 9 months! I had hit it twice before obviously without a hold, and third time was it!!!!
