It was the last day of our cab season and the conditions were marginal. I had slept in my truck at the coast, unable to find a buddy on the same schedule. Five feet of swell and five feet of viz with surface chop added to the mediocrity. The tidal exchange was stronger than average so the current was kicking making it necessary to hang on the anchor line. I was diving with a broken rib that let itself be known with every single inhalation. Found my unicorn cabezon in the murk on my fourth dive, climbed back into the kayak and headed straight home, grateful for a beautiful a fish.
