We headed out of Golfito, Costa Rica around 8:30am. Captain William got a call on the radio from some fishing boats that spotted a school of Dorado (Dolphinfish). As we pulled up, we could see some Dorado chasing the baits of the fishing boats. I entered the water with my Billfish pole spear attached to a 100ft riffe float line and 15L Spearmaster float. I immediately saw the school of Dorado and slowed my movement. My dive buddy, David Fritch, slipped in close behind me and kept some distance to minimize pressure on the school. I made a shallow drop to pull in some of the bigger bulls from the outside of the school and lined up on the closest one. I got a low shot, but it was a good holding shot on the fish. David then came in a bit closer and was able to record me fighting the fish on his gopro. I worked the float line slowly pulling the fish towards me until I could secure the tail. Then I grabbed the fish by the gills and took it to the boat!
