On the last day of my stay on the island, we focused mainly on catching fish in shallow waters. After about two hours of fishing, we decided to head out to the drop-off. While diving down toward a school of large steephead’s parrotfish, I spotted, a bit deeper—around 20 meters down the drop-off—a pair of dotted sweetlips, one of which was significantly larger than usual. As they swam toward me, I aimed and took a shot at the bigger one, hitting and bringing it to the surface shortly after. Once at the surface, I showed the catch to our captain, a local from the island, who was astonished and said he had never seen a specimen that big before. After a quick photo session, I placed the fish in the cooler. That evening, once back on land, we weighed it. A truly magnificent and delicious fish.
