It was a very good day of fishing, you could see many sierras and my companions had killed a few groupers, we got on the boat and the captain told us there were a couple of reefs which might have a some fish. My partner jumped into the water without his speargun to verify and as soon as he dove in, he asked for his gun , he had seen a good size mexican barred snapper, as soon as he dove I got in the water and I got to watch my companion bringing up a good size mexican barred snapper ; I swam to the next reef in the middle of the sand and I dove and waited at about 30 feet deep. I started to move and I saw the mexican barred snapper in front of me, he stared at me as groupers commonly do, and as he turned I let go a shot near the head. The reef did not have many caves and the fight was minimal, and he had no surrounding caves. I went down for him and when I saw it on the boat it looked very good, so we weighed both the snappers went from 12 kilos (record at that time), only for a few grams and mine for over 4 kilos, as soon as we could we communicated with Tim Hattler of Palapas Ventana to help us in the registration process.
