I was hunting on a 25-30 feet shelf next to some cliffs. Often times while breathing up I would see carp swim up out of the shallows to check me out. I had already shot a good amount of fair sized carp that day hoping to get a record. Though I had already shot record qualifying carp I was still on the look out for one that may be even bigger. I was swimming along the cliffs above the shelf when I saw a carp coming from the depths to check me out. I quickly realized this was a large fish and took a shot hitting him right through the gill plates. It was a very sturdy shot and I landed him quickly. When I got to the rest of my fish I noticed this was obviously going to be my record fish and I could not have been more excited. Not only did I set out to get a record that day but to get several that could qualify. It was an amazing day.
