IUSA ATHLETE of the YEAR AWARDS

In 1952 The Helms Athletic Foundation, the American Athletic Union (AAU), and the International Underwater Spearfishing Committee (IUSA) bestowed the first Spearfishing Athlete 0f The Year Award on Doctor Nelson Mathison of California. The IUSA Athlete of the Year Committee has since presented awards annually to top spearfishermen across the nation for their exemplary performance as divers, as well as their contribution to the communities in which they live. The selection committee is generally made up of past recipients of the coveted award and is a "who's who" in the diving world.
